15 students of Mahajana’s land job in New Jersey hotel company

Mysuru: Mysuru is Karnataka’s top tourist destination that attracts footfalls from across the world. Students who successfully completed tourism specialized course at a college in the city have got placement abroad.

In all 15 students of Mahajana First Grade College who pursued Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Masters in Tourism have got placement in a New Jersey company with a pay of Rs 1.87 lakh per month.

SBRR Mahajana College’s Tourism and Aviation and Hotel Management course have decades of history as it is the only college in the city offering academic programs in Tourism and Hotel management in UG and PG levels.

University of Mysore has recognized the courses and now the students who excel in this course have also got placement outside India.

Among them seven are from Mysuru, two Tibetans, Kerala and North east students. They have landed job at Swagath Gourment a leading hotel company at New Jersey, which is run by Indian origin businessmen.

Mahajana Education Society (MES) secretary Vijayalakshmi Muralidhar told media “these courses are specialised and our state students can pursue such courses. Now, other state students are also reaping benefits from our academic infrastructure.”

Post Graduation wing, Director C K Renukarya said “intake for UG tourism programĀ is about 60, but mere 20 per cent of students within Karnataka opt for this job and skill oriented course. Our first set of students are directly picked up from the campus by New Jersey company.”

Tourism department HOD and Prof Dr Satish Chetty said “our students confidence level is low. But, our academics can improve their skills. Now, aviation industry is booming and students can take courses and get attractive jobs. We take students to airports and field visits as it helps them to gain more knowledge,” Satish Chetty added.

Student Chetan S said “I am happy about getting job and expected to receive 1000 plus US dollars per month. The academic quality helped me in finding a job abroad,” Chetan stated.
