Post-Covid-19, govt wants to focus on Tier -II cities for industries: Minister Shettar
2 min readMysuru: Considering the distress caused due to the lockdown following Covid-19 pandemic, chief minister was appealed to allow industries to function. In fact, there was no permission to open industries until May 17, said District In-charge Minister ST Somashekhar.
He was speaking at the meeting of FKCCI office-bearers at ZP auditorium here on Friday.
Minister Somashekhar thanked Industries Minister Jagadish Shettar for agreeing to have a meeting of office-bearers.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Shettar said that the government is currently focussing on Tier-II cities for industrial development. Bengaluru is crowded with industries. There’s lot of pressure in Bengaluru.
“We want to look beyond Bengaluru. Hence, we want to focus on Tier-II cities like Mysuru, Mangaluru, Belagavi, Hubballi and Kalaburagi to encourage industries here. We are working in this,” Shettar said.
On providing special package to industrialists, Minister Shettar said that a study is being conducted. We would announce the package after reviewing economic situation in the country and state.
He hoped that country’s industrial sector would have new lease of hope as industries from many countries like Japan and US are planning to exit from China. If those companies are planning to come to the state we would turn out focus on Tier-II cities along with Bengaluru.
On the occasion, former legislator Vasu submitted a memorandum on grievances of industrialists to the ministers.
Ministers said that restrictions on obtaining pass have been reduced. To avoid Vizag-like tragedy, industries must submit a safety certificate to the deputy commissioner.
Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar clarified that in the current scenario, it is not possible to provide buses to the industries. However, they may rent the buses for workers safety abiding the rules, he said.
