Tusker electrocuted at coffee estate in forest fringes, FIR booked against owner, supervisor
1 min readMysuru: A 35-year-old tusker was electrocuted at a coffee plantation in the fringes of Cauvery block forest in Hunsur wildlife range of Nagarahole Tiger Reserve on September 13.
According to a press release from ACF, Hunsur wildlife sub- division ” the elephant died after coming in contact with the solar fence connected to illegally drawn electric line.”
RFO Hanumantharaju S has lodged a complaint against landlord Joyson Sunny of Arekadu, Siddapura, Virajpet taluk and supervisor Sheshappa of Abetmangala, Somwarpet taluk at Bylakuppe police station.
ACF A V Satish, CPI, Bylakuppe, B G Prakash, AEE, Cescorp, Periyapatna and Cescorp vigilance personnel visited the spot.
A FIR 0087/2027 (13/9/2021) under IPC sections 429, 201, 34, Indian Electricity Act 2003 (U/s 135), WLPA 1972 (U/s 9,51) has been registered at Bylakuppe police station.
According to wildlife activist Joseph Hoover “It is a matter of grave concern that elephants are frequently being electrocuted in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
It is disappointing that this continues to happen though there is an inter-department (Forest, Police, Electricity board and Revenue) vigilance committee to keep a tab on illegal tapping of electricity by landowners.”
