5 min readBengaluru: International Fashion Symposium (IFS – 2022) on “Textile, Apparel and Fashion for Holistic Human living on Earth and beyond and Miraki Fashion Show 2022 was inaugurated by Dr Kuldeep K Raina, Vice- Chancellor, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS) on Friday
The event was organised by Department of Fashion Design, FAD, M S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bangalore.
The program began with the invocation song, followed by Ramaiah Anthem. Dr Mamatha G Hegde, Head, Fashion Design, FAD, welcomed the dignitaries during the which she highlighted the importance of the International Fashion Symposium (IFS – 2022) and Miraki Fashion show 2022. Dignitaries inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp.
During the opening remarks Prof M Sai Baba, Registrar RUAS briefed on scope of symposiums and fashion designing program.
He conveyed fashion industry requires more designers to boost the development of fashion in India and also at the global level.
All the hybrid mode participants were addressed by Dr Kuldeep K Raina, Vice Chancellor, RUAS.
He briefed and highlighted about the harnessing of design and art related programs as per NEP.
He said “theoretical and practical approaches with relevant and contemporary technical education is very important these days. This type of education inculcates conducive learning environment and provides empowerment to attain the highest level of efficiency, integrity and honesty among students paternity”.
He also said “usage of art in multiple ways i.e craft, dance, drama, drawing, music, painting, writing, field trips to museum, gallery, etc., will act as a media to pour out the hidden inherent talent of an individual”.
Later he told that, “Designing field involves creativity, conceptual ideas and imaginations which opens the door for wonders and as a result, one can create and experiment on ideas. The world is growing at a jet fast range and so also humanity is evolving towards higher and higher consciousness. This needs totally different perception for the future. Past set conditions need to be modernised to receive and actualize the higher gradations of potentiality. Education is one of the main foundations where this re-shaping and remoulding can be initiated with a futuristic vision. Any of the advanced science and technology starting from innovative ideas, processing, marketing and promotion etc., if represented in an artistic way such as painting, drawing, modelling and so on, will have more growth in the global market.

The event continued with solo dance after the inaugural function.
Industrial MOU signing ceremony was also witnessed with Industry collaborators Vijay Eesam, CEO and Director Humen Interatice Private limited, Hyderabad online mode and Dheeraj Razdan , CEO and Founder Leisure Loom Inc. & LLI Digital Solutions in physical mode in the presence of Vice chancellor, Registrar and Pro )-Vice Chancellor Research.
Both MOU partners and Vice chancellor briefed on the importance of having Industry MOU especially for activity related to student’s internships and placements.
Panel discussion related to the theme “Textile, Apparel and Fashion for Holistic Human living on Earth and Beyond?”, was started by the Moderator Mr Dheeraj Razdan CEO and Founder Leisure Loom Inc. & LLI Digital Solutions physical mode.
Dr Aniraban Dutta, Assistant Professor, Apparel & Textile Technology, ‘Govt. College of Engineering and Textile Technology, Kolkatta virtually moderated discussion.
The topics like “Digital transformation in designing sector, international trends, global patterns, Importance of designing program, innovative designing, new researches in the domain of textile, apparel, and fashion enhance the aesthetics and functionality of human living on earth and beyond, roles of merchandiser for bringing new design and technologies for production process, current technological advancement in fashion costumes for space programs, smart wearables’ protective, intelligent clothing and textiles” were brainstormed during the program by eminent panellists such as Dharmendra , Operations head, Arvind Life styles PLC, Ethiopia. Prof Bystrova Tatyana Yuryevna, Director of Design, Ural Federal University, Ekaterinburg, Russia, Mr. Upendra Kumar J. S, Marketing and Merchandising manager, PT Hikmat Moda Fashion, Jakarta, Indonesia and Mr. Rayed Barket, Asst. Prof. Dept. Of Fashion studies, Bangaldesh University of Fashion Technology, Bangladesh discussed the current technological advancement in fashion costumes for space programs, smart wearables’ protective, intelligent clothing and textiles.
The Panel discussion radiated light on innovative design, research ideas in the domain of textile, apparel, and fashion for the holistic living of human being on earth and beyond with due focus on sustainability in fashion, textiles, and apparel, use of natural fabrics, dyes, print, etc. Knowledge on changing trends in fashion, textiles, and apparel pertaining to production, buying behaviour, environment, temp, fashion 4.0, digitization, advanced manufacturing process helped the International delegates and participants of the event.
Miraki fashion show 2022 started with the introduction of International judges Sonia Gurnani, International Fashion Designer, New Delhi and National physical mode judges Dr Sanjay Neelancheri, fashion stylist and Choreographer, Banglore and Sridhar, Asst. Fashion designer, ASRC designer house, Bangalore.
All the designs were evaluated for parameters like design aesthetics, choreography, theme, stage presentation, innovation design originality, vision for future, accessories, co-ordination, expression and confidence.
Sixth semester BDes Fashion Design and MDes Fashion Design students showcased their portfolio collection during the fashion show. Designer Chinmayi E designed the theme “Self-exploration and minimal fashion” by inspiration of shades of wine, followed by designer Zeba’s collection inspired by snake and tiger, wild creature theme. Lady bug inspiration based phulka dot designs were created by designer Tannu Priya.
Designer Nelshia designed garments based on Vitiligo inspiration for a theme Perfectly Imperfect. Greek goddesses’ inspiration based designs were created by designer Riduvarshini S R. Leaves based designs were created by designer Rohini, and Tie and Dye based designs were designed by designer Neeraja.
Designer Ithishree Nayak’s designs were based on humming bird inspiration. Snake texture based designs were developed by Prithvi Iyengar, Kalamkari print based designs were created by designer Diya.
Inspiration based on Sculpture of Indian temple were created by Meena Ayappan.
Aardhra Jayachandran designed apparel based on peony flower based theme and Chilsy Acha Joy designed designs based on the theme rainbow.
Music and Dance in between the show added glamour to the event.
The entire Miraki Fashion show was anchored by Smitha R and l Asleesha Bhargav.
Goutham N Announced the award winner and Nagaveni K did the Master of ceremony and programme ended with National Anthem.
