Intellectual Disability: A brief understanding
1 min readMysuru: Intellectual Disability involves problems with general mental abilities that effect functioning in two aspects, Intellectual and adaptive function.
A full scale IQ score of between 70 and 75 denotes a considerable intellectual function restriction. However, the individuals’ challenges with general mental abilities must be taken into account when interpreting the IQ result.
Intellectual impairment has many distinct causes. It may be linked to a genetic abnormality like Fragile X syndrome or Down syndrome. It may appear after contacting an illness like meningitis, whooping, cough, or measles, as a result of childhood head trauma, or as a result of exposer to poisons like lead and mercury.
Brain abnormalities, maternal illnesses, and environmental variables are additional potential causes of intellectual impairment (alcohol, drugs, and other toxins).
After receiving a diagnosis, assistance for those with intellectual disabilities forces on the person’s strengths needs, and the support required for him or her to operate at home, school or at work, and in the community.
