Nandi in different hues attracts devotees at Chamundi Hill

Mysuru: The monolithic Nandi statue atop Chamundi Hill on Sunday came alive in different hues, attracting devotees and tourists alike in large numbers.
Bettada Balaga a group of regular walkers to Chamundi Hill who climb the shrine through steps, organise Mastkabhisheka to the statue every year during Karthika Masa as per Hindu calendar.
Nandi statue near 700th steps of the hill was sculpted during the reign of erstwhile ruler Dodda Devaraja Wadiyar.
A few years ago, Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage conserved the statue by scientifically removing a layer of oil from the statue.
As a part of the ritual associated with Masthakabhisheka, Milk, Curd, Honey, Dryfruits, Turmeric, Kumkum and Coconut water, Lime, flowers and leaves of Bilwa will be offered to the statue.
A temporary stairs with scaffolding on the top of the idol, will be erected to perform the abhisheka.
Hosamat seer Sri Chidananda Swamiji, Suttur Mutt Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra and other religious leaders were present.
