In the name of Devi fair, ‘Nanganach’ is a norm in Nagamangala; video goes viral

Mandya: As the Assembly elections are fast approaching, politicians are indulging old-new tactics to woo voters. Nagamangala has become infamous for repeated ‘Nanganach’ performances in the past.

On Monday too, in the name of musical night, ‘nanganach’ was performed till late night as part of Manchamma Devi and Masanamma Devi fair at T Channapura village, Nagamangala taluk. The pamphlets printed for the fair have photos of JDS MLA Suresh Gowda, former Mandya MLC Appajigowda and JDS leader Bandeppa Kashampur.

A video of women in skimpy clothes performing through the night at the fair has gone viral.

In fact, this is not the first time that Nagamangala has been in the news for similar reasons. Earlier too, such events were organized to woo male youth voters.

But this has not gone well with women and others in the village who have – often – expressed their anger at the organizers. Yet, in the name of musical events, such programmes are becoming common at night, especially during elections in Mandya and Ramanagara districts.
