A sly look at gaming addiction in children

2 min read

Mysuru: Gaming addiction is mainly seen in children below the age group of 18, as during the pandemic, parents would let their children play videogames to keep them occupied as the children couldn’t go out to play, hence the number of active users of mobile games increased drastically.

This might not sound like a big problem as the children are being kept occupied and the parents are getting time of their own to relax while their children play, the problem begins when the child is so immersive in the game that it starts affecting the way they behave, they become over competitive and are always aggressive.

The DSM-five, consist of a segment to assist humans and medical doctors in recognizing the warning symptoms and symptoms of trouble with video gaming. These troubles can manifest whether or not, the player plays online or offline, thinking of gaming all or most of the time, feeling horrific when not playing, feeling the need to spend time gaming increasingly.

This escape from reality can be addicting as the smartphone now opens a portal to run away from their emotions and use them in a different way to have fun without being aware of the consequences that are followed.

Parents need to be more aware of the activities of their children and have to make sure to limit the usage of smartphones so the child may be away from danger.

In order to spread awareness about the malicious consequences of gaming addiction in children. I request you to publish this letter in reputed news portal of yours.

Thank you
