Amid Covid crises, Mysuru achieves rare industrial feat, exports products worth Rs 2,914 crore
2 min readMysuru: Palace City Mysuru tops in the export of automobile and handicraft products with annual turnover crossing Rs 2,914 crore, a rare feat even in the pandemic time.
Mysuru is popular as Heritage city and the industrial growth is building hopes of becoming next to Bengaluru.
“Vocal for Local” concept of the Government of India is focusing on exports, the reason behind this rapid growth.
Mysuru is in the lead since over 100 years with home grown brands like-Mysore Sandal soap, Mysore silk and handicraft products, having takers in and around the globe.
Now, automobile and software is giving additional boost to Mysuru export rankings.
TVS and J K Tyre industries export alone is worth around Rs 1000 crore and handicrafts mainly inlay products export share is about approximately Rs 800 crore. Even when the Covid pandemic hit the industrial sector, Mysuru achieved better in exports and continues to be in the global space in manufacturing and exports.
Mysuru is exporting its best products to 63 countries, and 157 industrial units are in the top list.
Mysuru is now top two in software exports after Bengaluru.
The city is also exporting Electronics, Electrical, Masala products and gems and jewellery products, Indelible Ink and medical equipment.
Mysuru has its own uniqueness, because out of 48 GI products in Karnataka, Mysuru owns nine GI Products.
Joint Director of District Industries Centre D K Lingaraju said “Mysuru is going to set up new Export House at the cost of Rs five to six crore and it provides all services to improve exports, like customs, credit and quality analysis units.”
