BPL Cards: State Government singing a different tune, citing central guidelines, says H D Kumaraswamy

2 min read

Bengaluru: “The State Government is now saying that BPL cards are being cancelled based on the Central guidelines. But why didn’t they say this all these days?” questioned Union Minister and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

Responding to questions from the media here on Thursday, Kumaraswamy said, “This morning, reports in the media claimed that the cancellations are based on the guidelines issued by the centre. Now, the state government is changing its stance. But why didn’t they mention this over the past week? What were they saying then?” he asked critically.

“The state government is creating confusion over the issue of BPL cards, and they are unable to provide clarity to the people,” he said.

Kumaraswamy further stated, “The Chief Minister makes one statement, while the ministers make contradictory statements. There is no clarity among themselves. I have not spoken lightly about the guarantee schemes. I have clearly said that, there is no financial hurdle in fulfilling guarantees. They’ve been consistently increasing taxes and filling the treasury. My only question is, where is that money going? There are financial mismanagement issues and I have suggested they fix them,” he said.

NDA will win Channapatna

Speaking about the Channapatna by-election, the results of which will be on November 23, Kumaraswamy expressed confidence that the NDA candidate will emerge victorious.

“I personally campaigned there for 15 days, and I understand the public sentiment. There is no doubt about the victory. The NDA candidate will surely win,” he said, about his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy’s chances.

He also predicted that the BJP would come to power in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, saying, “There is no doubt about BJP forming the government in these states as well.”
