Covid-19: Medical institutes’ directors to be held responsible for poor facility

Bengaluru: Following complaints on poor treatment and facilities to Covid-19 affected at the hospitals, Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar has warned that hospitals’ directors would be made responsible for such loopholes.

The officers taking part in a video conference meeting with Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar in Bengaluru.

Minister Sudhakar has self quarantined after his father and daughter tested positive for Covid-19. He held a video conference with the directors of government medical institutions from his home on Tuesday.

Apparently irked by media reports on complaints that patients were being given sub-standard food and lack of hygiene st the hospitals, minister Sudhakar said that such reports are discouraging after struggling to contain the first, got three months.

“There’s no compromise on medicines and treatment given to patients. If such complaints continue in future then directors of that institution would be made responsible. Action will be initiated against them,” he warned.

He sought details of treatment, hygiene and other facilities bring provided at Victoria, Bowring and Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Chest Diseases.

“If complaints continue, then the institute would be handed over to the KAS officers,” he said.

He directed the authorities to send asymptomatic who tested positive to Covid care centres. Only those who demonstrate strong symptoms and suffering from serious illnesses should be admitted in Covid hospitals. He asked them to provide, nutritious food to boost immunity to those affected.

On complaints that experts and senior doctors are not visiting the public, he asked the directors to put up a notice board on wards and ICU Informing about the duty doctors. Those on duty should mark their attendance in the camera before and after their duty hours. This should be implemented from Wednesday itself, he observed.

He asked the authorities to cross check the number of beds in private hospitals as cases are on the rise.

He further said that guidelines with regard to admitting asymptomatic to Covid symptoms will be released soon.
