Dasara elephant Rohith’s inseparable bond with late Maharaja of Mysore’s grand kin
1 min readMysuru: Shruthi Keerthi Devi, the member of erstwhile royal family of Mysore, met her beloved Dasara elephant Rohith, at Mysore Palace premises on Tuesday.
Rohith, the mild mannered elephant is participating in Naada Habba Mysore Dasara Dasara for the second year. He is among the first batch of nine elephants camping at Mysore Palace premises to participate in Dasara- 2024, from October 3 to 12.
Shruthi, who visited the Mysore Palace, caressed her beloved jumbo and fed him cucumber and green grass. She also fed other elephants Varalakshmi and Ekalavya also.
Rohith was six months old, when he was separated from mother elephant at Hediyala range forest in Bandipur. Shruthi Keerthi’s mother Maharajakumari Vishalakshidevi, the youngest daughter of Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, last Maharaja of Mysore, adopted the elephant calf from Forest Department.
Having been known for her innate love for wildlife, Vishalakshidevi nurtured Rohith as her own for nearly a decade and later handed over the jumbo to Forest Department. However, the bond between Rohith and Shruthi Keerthi remains like earlier, while Vishalakshidevi passed away in October 2018.
The 21-year-old elephant Rohith belongs to Rampura elephant camp in Sargur taluk in Bandipur Tiger Reserve Forest.
