Dasara elephants get Rs 25 lakh insurance cover

Mysuru: Eight Dasara elephants have got insurance cover of Rs 25 lakh.
Five male elephants Abhimanyu, Gopalaswamy, Vikrama, Dhananjaya and Ashwathama are insured for Rs 3.5 lakh each and three female elephants- Cauvery, Lakshmi and Chaitra for Rs 2.5 lakh each, totalling Rs 25 lakh.
While mahouts and Kavadis are covered for Rs one lakh each. Besides, there is separate insurance cover of Rs 30 lakh for the safety of public property.
United India Insurance company is the service provider.
Dasara will be commencing from October 7 and Vijayadashami procession is on October 15.
Like previous year, the procession is restricted to Palace precincts under “Simple and Traditional Dasara.”
Dasara elephants which have already arrived and camping at Aranya Bhavan in Ashokapuram will be marching towards Mysuru Palace on Thursday.
