Delhi municipal polls: BJP, AAP locked in close fight

New Delhi: In the keenly fought elections to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the ruling BJP and its main rival Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are locked in an intense fight.
According to the early leads, of the total 250 wards of MCD, BJP is leading in 128 wards, followed by AAP- 116. While Congress has failed to bounce back with the grand old party leading in barely five wards and others in one ward.
When the counting of votes began, the trends showed AAP surpassing BJP. It was only after sometime that the saffron party came on the top, overtaking AAP, but the margin remains low with every round of counting of votes.
The results on the eve of the counting of votes of Gujarat Assembly elections on Thursday, is expected to give a glimpse of saffron party’s prospects in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home turf.
Like in MCD, where BJP holds the reins for the past 15 years, the saffron party is in power in Gujarat too for the last 30 years.
In both the places they are facing anti-incumbency, with AAP emerging as a strong contender replacing the position ceded by once powerful Congress.
