Differently Abled partake in walkathon to create awareness on plastic pollution

2 min read

Mysuru: As part of World Environment Day, EquiBeing Foundation along with District Disability Welfare Office, JSS Polytechnic for Differently Abled organised ‘Hasiru Drishti’, a walkathon to beat plastic pollution by persons with disabilities.

Dr Ananthalakshmi V, Chairperson and Managing Trustee, EquiBeing Foundation said ‘Hasiru Drishti’ was an inclusive walkathon to bring two causes together. “We as humanity have constantly crippled our environment with pollution including plastic and it’s time now for us to stand together to save our environment. Through ‘Hasiru Drishti’ we are creating a platform for persons with disabilities to lead a walkathon in Mysuru on the occasion of World Environment day,” Dr Ananthalakshmi said.

“We see the need for the community to come out and show their allegiance to larger world issues and be able to contribute, and that was one of the key factors that led to the conceptualisation of ‘Hasiru Drishti’,” Dr Ananthalakshmi observed.

“On one hand our objective is to create and provide a platform for the persons with disabilities to participate and voice their opinion on sustainability and the environment. On the other hand our objective is also to get able-bodied citizens to use this opportunity to show their allegiance to both the causes” added Ananthalakshmi.

Elangovan B, Principal, JSS Polytechnic for Differently Abled said “Like normal people, differently able students also showed concern about the protection of the environment. Around 700 students and more than 100 staff members from our Polytechnic were part of the event”. Earlier in the day wildlife photography was also inaugurated at JSS Differently Abled campus. Around 100 plus wildlife photographs were displayed.

Walkathon was flagged off at University of Mysore Crawford Hall which passed through Kukkarahalli Lake, AIISH and culminated at JSS Polytechnic for Differently Abled (SJCE Campus). Nearly 1000 differently abled people from Mysuru and neighbouring districts took part in the walkathon.
