Farmers barge into new DC office complex, stage flash protest
1 min readMysuru: Tension prevailed for sometime on the premises of new deputy commissioner’s office complex at Nazarbad here on Sunday, as farmers staged a flash protest.
The farmers owing allegiance to Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha barged into the compound and raised slogans catching the police personnel by surprise, on the eve of Karnataka Bandh.
Despite fervent appeals by the police to disperse and hold talks with the district minister who was chairing a meeting inside, the farmers rented slogans forcing the police to intervene.
Farmer leader Hosakote Basavaraju claimed that “both the state and central governments are anti farmer, labour and people. The Acts are not just Acts, it is like a corona ordinance that will haunt the people for long. Around 18 lakh farmers are in distressed after the amendments made to Land Reforms Act and APMC ordinance. The State Government didn’t hold any talks with farmer organisations, before making amendments”, Hosakote Basavaraju claimed.
Later, the farmers withdrew their protest after holding a meeting with the district minister.
