Mysuru: Swami and Friends, the fictional characters in the novel of renowned writer late R K Narayan came alive at Yadavagiri in the city on Sunday.

What was unique about the unveiling ceremony of the statues, that face Vivekananda Road leading to late R K Narayan’s house in Yadavagiri, now turned into a museum, is the ‘reel man’ who lived the character of Swamy in Malgudi Days, inaugurating the statues from his own hands.

Master Manjunath the actor turned self-made liasoning officer, but private, who played the role of Swami, in Malgudi Days TV serial directed by versatile actor Shankar Nag, aired on Bangalore Doordarshan, inaugurating the statues.

Master Manjunath was more than happy to do the inauguration, for what he described himself as lucky to be a part of the ceremony.

Most importantly the credit goes to prominent hotelier P V Giri and family, his son Tarun Giri, who took the initiative of making the statues.

MP Prathap Simha, MLA L Nagendra, Corporators Prameela J Bharat and M U Subbaiah, senior journalist K B Ganapathy, S K Dinesh of Yadavagiri Residents Welfare Association and others were present.
