Fire at QC Lab: BBMP Chief Engineer Shivakumar succumbs to burns

Bengaluru: Chief Engineer of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Shivakumar (45), whose condition was critical after fire mishap at Quality Control (QC) Lab at its premises on August 12, succumbed to burns at a private hospital on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has condoled the death of Shivakumar.

Two days ago, the condition of Shivakumar who was on ventilator support, had turned critical and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar had visited Apollo hospital, Seshadripuram in the city.

Shivakumar was among nine injured in the fire mishap that erupted at Quality Control Lab, during a chemical testing. 

The other eight BBMP staff injured were Santhosh Kumar, an Executive Engineer, Kiran, Siraj, Manoj, Sridhar, Vijayamala, Jyothi, and Srinivas.

Following the worsening of the condition of Shivakumar and Junior Engineer Jyothi, who had suffered 25 per cent and 28 per cent burns respectively in the mishap, the duo had been shifted from Victoria Hospital to Apollo Hospital on August 21.

While other injured persons continue to be under treatment at Victoria Hospital and their condition is stable.
