First EV charging station at Kadakola shut within a few days of opening

2 min read

Mysuru: A first of its kind Electric Vehicle charging station that was set up in no time at Kadakola on Mysuru- Nanjangud road, has shut down in the same speed.

Thanks to the hastiness at which Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (Cesc) Limited, Mysuru installed the station at KEB Engineers Association (KEBEA) premises, Kadakola with kiosks to recharge the electric vehicles irrespective of two-wheeler and four-wheelers, the station has been shut at the same speed with which it was opened with much fanfare with Energy Minister  V Sunil Kumar dedicating the facility on May 7.

To prevent the green vehicle owners to ride into the station, the entrance has been closed with bamboos and kiosks are covered with plastic sheets.

Three kiosks are installed including two to cater to four- wheelers and one for two wheeler.

While the similar kiosks installed at CESC office premises in Kuvempunagar, Mysuru and two malls in the city are functioning without any hassles.

The charging station on the highway assumes significance as it connects tourist destinations. However, it has been closed for now.

CESC electric vehicles and Charging station nodal officer Munigopalaraju told Mysoorunews.com “very less number of electric vehicles ply through the highway and the kiosks need canopy to protect from sun and rain. Hence we have temporarily closed the station. Those who want to charge the vehicles can contact the number which will be displayed at the station and the designated person will provide the service”.

It shows that the CESC went ahead to install the station without any proper study on the density of Electric vehicles movement on the highway and proper infrastructure, just to inaugurate the charging station at the hands of the minister.

While the Energy Ministry is keen on promoting EV, lack of adequate planning has defeated the purpose at least in the case of Kadakola station.

Hope authorities concerned take a quick note.
