Flying Snake rescued in Mysuru! Snake had travelled from Western Ghats to City of Palaces

1 min read

Mysuru: An ornamental flying snake that had garnered attention in recent days in the city, was finally rescued on Ramanuja Road here on Monday.

The rare reptile called ‘Ornate Snake’ was rescued by Snake Shyam and his son Suryakeerthi. Unlike other species of snakes, Ornate Snakes most known as Flying Snakes are largely found in Western Ghats.

According to Shyam, the snake may have travelled hundreds of km distance by accidentally landing on a truck or a lorry. Two months ago, it was spotted on Ramanuja Road seventh cross, later on second cross. On Monday, the snake was sighted near Rajendra Kalamandira and Shyam received a call.

It belongs to non- venomous species and Western Ghats is its habitat. As it flies from place to place, it’s not that easy to catch the snake, but luckily it was rescued by Shyam and Suryakeerthi.
