From Dharmastala to world over! Baby jumbo Shivani attracts many
1 min readDakshina Kannada: A few minutes into its naming ceremony, a baby elephant had hit International headlines. The photos and videos of the calf have become internet sensation.
Like the innocence of any baby irrespective, this elephant calf of Dharmastala Sri Manjunatheshwara Temple was christened in a traditional ceremony.
It was named Shivani and more than the name the playful mood of the calf with a tub of water was the cynosure of all eyes.
It was a tailor made moment for the young and old alike, who witnessed the calf with equal joy.
The elephant slipping at times in its eagerness to catch hold of the tub with its trunk, even as the mahout tried to help it, was a sight to behold for sometime. Lakshmi the mother of Shivani and grandmother Latha were present.
According to Dharmastala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade “It was for the first time the baby elephant was born under the care of temple administration. Its mother Lakshmi had been sent to Bannerghatta Biological Park ( BBP) for the purpose of breeding, two years ago”.
