The preschool training centre in the Department of Special Education at All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) provides early educational intervention services for children with communication disorders such as hearing impairment, mental retardation, autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, and multiple disabilities.
Preschool training is offered in the essential areas like self-help, cognitive, motor and social skills in order to prepare children with communication disorders for mainstreaming.
For the academic year 2021-22, 108 children with communication disorders are getting graduated from preschool to proceed towards the path of success in mainstream school. Among them, 90% (96 children) are being mainstreamed and the remaining have been recommended for partial integration with special support services.
This high success rate of achievement could be attributed to the fact that these children have been taught through a systematic curriculum and appropriate teaching strategies which meets the learning requirements of the children. Along with this, the co-operation of parents and caregivers cannot be underestimated as they are equal stakeholders in the success of their children.
