Hear that Ghantasala classical at Shantala for one last time

Mysuru: Namo venkatesha, namo tirumalesa…this devotional song in Telugu from the majestic voice of Ghantasala Venateswararao still remains one of the most favourite songs among the devotees of Lord Venkateshwara of Tirupati.

For, it was rendered by ever soothing golden voice of Gahantasala one of the greatest music directors and playback singers ever produced by Telugu film industry.

Such was the craze that time that, it had become a norm in the film theatres to play the song, before screening the movie. Though it gradually stopped thereafter, it was in far away Mysuru, the tradition was kept alive for 46 years, since 1974, till the owners called it off with the stopping of the exhibition of film at Shantala theatre.

It was a rare privilege the journalists and select invitees could enjoy on Wednesday, to hear the soothing devotional classic of Ghantasala for one last time at Shantala.

The families of partners of the theatre Padaki and Tipson had called for a press meet to express their heart felt gratitude towards all- from Anathalaya Trust to the general public and film buffs without whom it was not possible to take Shantala to such a height that it will remain etched in the memory of cinema lovers for long.

N P Padaki who took the lead in thanking all said “It is with a heavy heart that we inform the public of Mysuru that the long standing lease of 46 years with the Anathalaya Trust to run and exhibit movies has come to an end”.

Padaki did not forget to extend his heartfelt thanks to the staff of the theatre and also the film fraternity- from actors to technicians, producers to directors and distributors.

Also the Deputy Commissioner’s office, police, MCC, PWD and fire and emergency services, besides Film Division and electrical inspectorate, all were thanked for their unflinching cooperation all these years.
