Mysuru: The grand celebrations of Dasara 2024 unfolded in the Palace City of Mysuru with the inauguration of the 414th Nadahabba (state festival) by the esteemed writer Prof Hampa Nagarajaiah (Hampana).

As the chief guest, Prof Nagarajaiah offered flowers to the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari, which was seated in a silver chariot, atcChamundi Hill marking the beginning of the celebrations.

At 9:30 am, Prof Nagarajaiah officially inaugurated the festivities.

In his speech, he fondly recalled the tradition of displaying dolls at his home, a practice inspired by the Mysuru Royal family, symbolising prosperity.

He highlighted how the Mysuru Palace and the iconic ‘Jamboo Savari’ (elephant procession) are integral to Mysuru’s cultural legacy, which is passed down through generations.

Reflecting on personal memories, he mentioned the wrestling tournament of 1948, sharing how Ustad Ramu inspired him to pursue wrestling. Although he aspired to join Garadi Mane (traditional gymnasium), his father dissuaded him.

Prof Nagarajaiah also prayed to Goddess Chamundeshwari to bless the world with peace, especially in conflict zones like Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Palestine.

He emphasised the need for greater women’s participation in legislative processes and called for empowering women in leadership roles.

He also stressed the importance of political stability, saying that frequent elections are not beneficial for governance.

In a touching tribute, he dedicated this Dasara inauguration to his dear friend of 71 years and his wife of 63 years, Prof Kamala Hampana, who passed away recently.
