Howdah elephant Abhimanyu leads Jamboo Savari rehearsal
2 min readMysuru: As Jamboo Savari of Dasara-2024 approaches on Vijayadashami on October 12, Captain Abhimanyu and his team are preparing for their royal march along Rajamarga. This will be the fifth time Abhimanyu will be carrying the 750-kg golden howdah from the Palace to Bannimantap.
During the rehearsal on Wednesday, Abhimanyu was accompanied by kumki elephants Hiranya and Lakshmi. The elephants, along with the Mounted Police and Police Band, rehearsed the ceremonial protocol, including the Pushparchane (flower offering) in front of Mysore Palace.
DCPs Mutturaju and Jahnavi, MLA T S Srivatsa, and DCF I B Prabhu Gowda participated in the symbolic flower tribute to Abhimanyu.
In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Abhimanyu carried the golden howdah for only 200 metres within the Palace premises. In 2021, the pandemic again limited the procession. However, in the last two years, Abhimanyu has successfully completed the full procession to Bannimantap. This year marks his fifth time undertaking this grand and sacred responsibility.
The Vijayadashami procession is scheduled for October 12. The Nandhidhwaja Puja will take place at the Balarama Gate (north gate) of Mysore Palace between 1:41 PM and 2:10 PM during the Makara Lagna. The Pushparchane ceremony will be held from 4 PM to 4:30 PM during the Kumba Lagna.
According to DCF Prabhu Gowda, nine elephants have been selected for this year’s Jamboo Savari.
Abhimanyu will carry the golden howdah with the idol.of Goddess Chamundeshwari, with Hiranya and Lakshmi serving as kumki elephants. Dhananjaya will serve as the Nishane elephant, while Gopi has been selected as the Noupath elephant. A simplified route within Mysore Palace was practiced during the rehearsal.
