Mysuru: Hundreds of farmers were detained at the outer-ring road junction on Mysuru- Bengaluru highway on Friday.
A section of farmers made a vain bid to block the highway near Columbia Asia Hospital junction on Outer Ring Road in the morning. They raised slogans against the government for introducing amended Land Reforms Act, APMC ordinance and other Bills against the interest of the farmers.
Police personnel who took exception, reprimanded the farmers not to disturb the smooth flow of traffic. This led to a wordy duel among farmers and policemen for sometime. As the farmers remained unheeded, the policemen took them into custody and shifted them in a KSRTC bus.
Following the highway bandh call given by Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha (KRRS), police had intensified security arrangements at highways on the outskirts of the city.
To handle the situation, district police had arranged KSRTC buses to detain and shift the protesting farmers.
