Bengaluru: Former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa who was instrumental in paving his party to form a government in Karnataka and also helping the Saffron party to make inroads into Southern India, bid goodbye to electoral politics at the Assembly session on Wednesday.

Making an emotional speech at the end of the session, the 79-year-old BJP veteran said that this would be his last session. But said he will strive for the party till his last breath. He thanked the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the position and respect in the party.

He further said that BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have always stood by me and never neglected me. “The positions and responsibilities I was given show the respect they have in me. I am indebted to Modi,” he added.

However, “I am not contesting polls and I will not come back to the House. But I will not sit at home and till my last breath, I will work to strengthen the party,” said Yeddyurappa, eight-time MLA from Shikaripura constituency in Shivamogga district.
