Acting on a complaint filed by Sandeep brother of the deceased Bhanurekha, BBMP officers are booked for negligence in preventing the accumulation of water in the underpass near K R Circle.
The police who have registered a case of Unnatural Death Report (UDR) under IPC 174A, shifted the body of Bhanurekha for postmortem at Victoria Hospital on Monday.
Bhanurekha was among five of her family members, who were travelling in a cab, when the four-wheeler got stuck in the waterlogged underpass.
While four others including her mother, two sisters and grandmother were rescued, Bhanurekha couldn’t come out of the vehicle. Though she was rushed to a hospital nearby in an autorickshaw, she didn’t survive.
A native of Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, Bhanurekha was working as a systems engineer in Infosys Bengaluru.
She was a resident of Pragathi Nagar, and the whole family had moved to Bengaluru two months ago.
As it was a Sunday, they went out for sight seeing and had visited Cubbon Park, before the tragedy struck.
After postmortem the body of Bhanurekha will be taken to her native Vijayawada for last rites, according to family sources.
