Jamboo Savari: Dasara elephant Dhananjaya selected as Nishaane Aane
2 min readMysuru: The roles have been assigned for Dasara elephants, in the fortcoming Jamboo Savari on October 12, with elephant Dhananjaya taking the lead in the Vijayadashami procession as the Nishane elephant, replacing Arjuna, who led in 2023.
This year, Dhananjaya will proudly carry the royal insignia and march along the iconic Raja Marga, as a prelude to jamboo savari on October 12.
Dhananjaya, a 44-year-old tusker from the Dubare Elephant Camp, will be guided by his mahout, Bhaskar J C, and his Kavadi, Rajanna J S.
Joining him in the procession is Gopi, a 42 year old tusker from the same camp. Gopi’s mahout, P B Naveen and his Kavadi, Shivu J R, will also participate.
In addition to the tuskers, two female elephants, Lakshmi and Hiranya, have been selected as Kumki elephants. These elephants will assist the Howdah elephant, Abhimanyu. Lakshmi, a 23-year-old from Rampura Elephant Camp, will be handled by her mahout, Chandra, with Krishnamurthy serving as her Kavadi. Similarly, Hiranya, a 47-year old from the same camp, will be led by mahout Shafiulla, with Mansoor as her Kavadi.
On October 7, forest officials weighed the elephants.
Abhimanyu, the 58-year-old captain being the Howdah elephant, now weighs 5,820 kg, having gained weight from 5,560 kg since entering Mysuru at on August 21.
On Saturday, October 12, Captain Abhimanyu, along with his team, will proudly participate in the grand Vijayadashami procession of Dasara-2024 along the Raja Marga.
DCF I B Prabhu Gowda, veterinarian Dr Muzeeb Ur Rehman, caretaker Akram Pasha, Abhimanyu’s mahout Vasanth and Kavadi Raju J K, along with the mahouts and Kavadis of the other elephants, were present.
