JSS Hospital starts Covishield vaccine trials from five volunteers today

Mysuru: Beginning Saturday, JSS Hospital in the city is starting Covishield vaccine trial against Covid-19 pandemic that has rattled the country. In the initial stage, five volunteers have been chosen for the trial.

JSS Medical College and Hospital of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research ( JSS AHER) is one of the hospitals selected for trials in the state.

JSS AHER chancellor Dr Suresh told media persons on the sidelines of 105th jayanti of Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji at Suttur mutt here that “today onwards we will start trials of Covishield vaccine. The trial will begin with five among the total  250 healthy volunteers chosen for the purpose”. 

First phase and second phase trials have been already conducted with vaccine procured from Pune based Serum Institute  of Maharashtra, said Suresh.
 
ICMR has taken a swift action in this regard and its efforts are appreciable. Dr Padmapriya from ICMR, Chennai is monitoring the trials, said Suresh acknowledging the efforts. 
 
Along with Covishield trial we are also doing BCG Vaccine trials at our health centre. Senior citizens among the healthy volunteers have been chosen for the experiment, said Suresh.
 
Suresh said that “if the required data of the trials is obtained by December, we can expect some good news from January 2021 and onwards. The manufacturing of vaccine and allied process also begin later. It will be a matter of pride to our country”.
