Mysuru: Dasara elephant Drona is suspected to have died of cardiac arrest at Mathigodu elephant camp near Titimathi in Nagarahole forest on Friday.
The 37 year old elephant collapsed while drinking water at the camp. Though efforts were made to revive its condition it did not prove of any help.
According to forest veterinarian Dr Mujeeb the exact reason behind its death is yet to be ascertained.
Conservator of Forest Narayan Swamy said ‘the reason will be known after post-mortem ‘.
Known for its majestic and calm behaviour, it had taken part in Naada Habba Dasara for two years in 2017 and 2018.
He was caught in an operation against rogue elephants five years ago in 2014 at Alur in Hassan district.
