2 min readMysuru: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Seshadripuram Degree College, Mysore, in collaboration with the Department of Kannada, celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava
on Wednesday at the college seminar hall.
The programme was inaugurated by blowing grains in a traditional manner, symbolising prosperity and unity.
Prof Jayaprakash Gowda, a retired teacher, literary, thinker and president of Karnataka Sangha, graced the occasion with his
presence.
In his address, Prof Jayaprakash Gowda emphasised the need for individuals to nurture a sense of belonging, stating, “As one grows, the feeling that the province is mine,
the country is mine, should develop, ensuring harmony.”
He lamented the rising spirit of division among the youth, warning that the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi’s united nation and Kuvempu’s dream of a peaceful garden for all races are gradually fading.
He urged everyone to cultivate a broad-minded outlook, avoiding internal conflicts and discarding divisive rhetoric. Highlighting the importance of cultural preservation, he stated, “English should be learned as a
language of knowledge, but it should not dominate our identity. Gandhiji
advocated education in the mother tongue, yet we have clung to English, even
after the British left.”
Quoting Basavanna, he remarked, “A harmonious personality can only be built when there is unity in thought, speech and action.”
He underscored Kannada’s rich heritage, describing it as a land of wealth and
sanctity, and called upon the youth to embrace a spirit of sacrifice to safeguard
the nation’s cultural wealth.
Dr Wooday P Krishna, Honorary General Secretary of Seshadripuram Educational Trust, in his presidential speech, highlighted Kuvempu’s eternal message that Karnataka is a garden of peace for all races.
Â
He emphasised that this profound vision must be preserved and never abandoned.
He urged the gathering to uphold the wisdom embedded in Kannada, nurture the idea of a
harmonious community and strengthen the deep roots of the Kannada language.
He concluded by stating that through collective efforts, we must safeguard and
cherish Nadu Nudi (the land and its language) for future generations.
As part of the Rajyotsava celebrations, achievers from various fields were
felicitated for their contributions:
Journalism: Ravikumar, former president of the Mysore District Journalists Association was honoured for his contributions to journalism.
Medicine: Dr Srinidhi S Hegde, a cardiologist at the Jayadeva Institute of
Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Mysore and Secretary of Cardiological
