Karnataka Bandh! KSRTC suspends 1200 bus services, heavy police cover in place
2 min readMysuru: An estimated 1200 bus services including those on city routes are suspended by KSRTC on Monday. The services will be resumed any time depending on the situation.
The services are called off as a precautionary measure on account of Karnataka Bandh call given by various farmer organisations and trade unions in the city. While 720 inter- district and inter- state services from the city are stopped, 480 services are stopped from city bus stand, according to KSRTC sources.
While a section of protesters belonging to Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha, Hasiru Sene, CITU and Karnataka Rajya Hindulida Vargagala Jagruta Vedike who had gathered at KSRTC sub-urban bus stand on Mother Teresa road made a vain bid to stop the buses on Mysuru- Bengaluru route. But the police present on the spot thwarted any such attempt by protesters, much to the relief of passengers, who were waiting with anxiety writ large on their faces.
While a bus started towards Bengaluru, another bus on the same route was stopped by the protesters for sometime.
Meanwhile the police led by DCP ( Law and order) Dr A N Prakash Gowda are ensuring that the smooth flow of traffic is not disrupted during bandh.
A protester who questioned the police for allowing vehicles on road was taken to task by the DCP.
The DCP reminded the protesters that they have given permission to carry out protest without making any fuss. While the police are also duty bound to protect the public.
When the protesters tried to take out a rally from the rural bus stand, the police restrained them. Later the protesters decided to continue with their protest at Town Hall.
