Karnataka Budget: CM Siddaramaiah presents Rs 3.27 lakh cr budget; says five guarantees to cost Rs 52,000 cr
1 min readBengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presented his 14th ambitious budget – a record of sorts – with an outlay of over Rs 3.27 lakh cr for the year 2023-24 in the Legislative Assembly here on Friday.
His budget had a firm focus on the five poll promises and the chief minister said that to implement all the five guarantees, his government would need an estimation of RS 52,000 cr annually. The five guarantees include, free bus travel for women – Shakti scheme, 200 units of free power – Gruha Jyothi, 10 kg of free foodgrains to poor – Anna Bhagya, Rs 2,000 to woman head of the family – Gruha Lakshmi and unemployment benefit to youth – Yuva Nidhi scheme.
Some of the key highlights of the budget are:
* Rs 100 cr to develop dilapidated school and college buildings
* Spoken English classes in all government high schools in association with British Council and Regional Institute of English
* Mid-day meals to include eggs/chikki or banana that would be served twice a week
* New flyover to come up near Byappanahalli Metro Station in Bengaluru at Rs 263 cr
* Bengaluru roads to be White-topped again at a cost of Rs 800 cr
* Trauma centres in Mysuru, Kalaburagi
* Medical College in Chitradurga
* Rs 5 cr for smart apps, mini food processing enterprises
* National Education Policy to be replaced with State Education Policy
