Kodagu ready to tackle flood! 25-member NDRF team arrives in coffee land
2 min readKodagu: As monsoon enters neighbouring Kerala, Kodagu is all set to handle any exigency. A 25-member national disaster response force (NDRF) team arrived at Kodagu on Tuesday.
Two years ago in 2018, Kodagu was worst affected by floods caused by heavy rainfall, that also resulted in landslide changing the topography of coffee land. As a precautionary measure, the district administration approached the central government to send NDRF team, in case the district had to face a similar situation. Government has dispatched 25 skilled NDRF team to the district.
The personnel belonging to 10th battalion came from Andhra Pradesh, where they successfully handled Amphan cyclone duty. The personnel are accommodated at Mythri hall in Madikeri town. They will be here till the end of monsoon, in August.
Kodagu DC Anis Kanmani Joy told Mysoorunews.com “the district level officers are deputed to each hobli. The needy materials like Raincoats, life jackets. Boats, Manila Ropes and search lights are stored in advance to tackle the situation”.
District administration has identified shelters to handle emergency situation. Besides, the authorities are coordinating with central and state disaster management cells and sending alerts to public through social media.
Helpline number 1077 is already activated along with exclusive Whatsapp number 8550001077 to connect people to handle the critical situation.
Authorities have also directed the public, especially those who were victims in previous years disaster to be on alert. They are being provided required assistance, DC added.
