Mysuru: As an immigrant student, I want to highlight the difficulties experienced by language chauvinism generally as a student, with no conceivable link to the Karnataka regional language.
For a student, communication is an essential skill needed for social survival. I have personally had uncomfortable interactions on a regular basis due to my complete estrangement from the Kannada language. Being unable to communicate coherently with family, friends, neighbors, store owners, taxi drivers, gas station employees, and many others has always been looked down upon.
Although it is important to have a basic understanding of the language being spoken around you, it is considered offensive to defy language defenders. It is challenging to seek to recognize a totally other language as your own, just as it is, to be open to another language that is spoken in your state, and all around you.
It would be preferable to generalise English and recognise it as a language used on common grounds in order to prevent any such linguistic offenses against students. Due to westernization, every student’s reliance and dependency on English is constantly increasing. English should be spoken exclusively on campus, and making this rule mandatory will help students venture outside their comfort zones and compete on an even playing field without facing prejudice.
I place my confidence in your reputable news source to support me in making sure that everyone is aware of, thinking about, and mindful of this subject.
Thanking you
