‘Lesson on Bhagat Singh re -introduced in text book: People’s movement yields results’
2 min readMysuru: As a result of widespread protests from educationists, intellectuals, common people and students in particular, the lesson on revolutionary Bhagath Singh has been re introduced in the class 10 text book! This is a victory for peoples’ movement!
According to Chandrakala
District secretary of All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO), Mysuru, “This fight must inspire our united struggle until the lessons that carry humanitarian values preached by Swami Vivekananda, progressive articles by P Lankesh, Sara Abbubakar and A N Murthy Rao, lesson on Narayanaguru and other progressive thinkers and lessons on social justice and gender equality, are re – introduced!!
Earlier in the pretext of text book re- revision, the lesson on Bhagat singh and the lessons with ethical, moral content were removed from class 10 text book. Moreover, in the text books, the speech of Hedgewar, founder of RSS, which spreads old, obsolete and obscurantist ideas, was introduced.
A statewide opposition arose to this kind of ‘ revision’.
Hundreds of protests were organised by common people and students urging the government to reintroduce the lesson on Bhagat singh, a martyr who went to the gallows at a very young age!
On observing this background, it becomes very clear that the government has bowed to the pressure of peoples’ movement and re introduced lesson on Bhagath Singh.
In a democratic education system, text books should not be controlled by party ideologies. And the text books must have only the established truths, scientific – secular – democratic concepts. Our fight must continue until we achieve such an environment in our education system.
