Mandya BJP ticket hopeful Sumalatha Ambareesh in Delhi
1 min readNew Delhi: Mandya Lok Sabha MP Sumalatha Ambareesh who is bargaining hard for the ticket to contest the elections on BJP ticket arrived in New Delhi on Sunday.
Sumalatha landed in Delhi from Bengaluru, following a emergency call from BJP High Command, it is said.
This follows JDS State President H D Kumaraswamy’s meeting with Home Minister and BJP poll strategist Amit Shah on Saturday to finalise the seat sharing pact.
JDS is particular on fielding its candidates from its bastions Mandya and Hassan Constituencies, along with Kolar. With Sumalatha also adamant on seeking reelection from Mandya, but on BJP ticket this time, the BJP high command is caught in a fix.
Sumalatha Ambareesh had contested the previous Lok Sabha elections from Mandya as an independent and won by a huge margin defeating Nikhil Kumaraswamy of JDS.
BJP and Congress had announced support to Sumalatha and refrained from fielding their candidates, that also came in handy helping Sumalatha register a resounding victory, upsetting the predictions of political pundits.
However in a significant political development ahead of Lok Sabha elections, JDS entered into an alliance with BJP.
Prior to that, Sumalatha had announced her support to BJP, expressing solidarity with the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but had stopped short of joining BJP.
