Matrubhumi newspaper’s CMD M P Veerendra Kumar no more
1 min readKerala: Former union minister and media baron M P Veerendra Kumar passed away on Thursday. Veerendra Kumar died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Kozhikode at about 11.30 pm. He was 83.
A two time Lok Sabha member from Kozhikode seat and also of Rajya Sabha, Veerendra Kumar had served as a union minister of State for labour and finance in 1996.
Veerendra Kumar was also the chairman and managing director of Matrubhumi newspaper, one of the popular dailies of the God’s Own Country.
He was the State president of Lok Tantrik Janata Dal the party he was associated with till his death. He began his political career with Samyukta Socialist Party, followed by Janata Party and was also arrested during emergency. He was also associated with Janata Dal ( United) party.
A prolific writer he had also penned 12 books in Malayalam and was also a recipient of Kendra Sahitya Academy Award in 2010.
He leaves behind his wife Usha, MLA son M V Shreyams Kumar and a large number of his relatives, followers and friends.
