Murugha seer must abdicate Peetha: Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha must add force to demand

Mysuru: Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha the supreme body of the community seems to have blatantly turned a blind eye towards the alleged sexual episodes of Chitradurga Brihanmath Seer Dr Shivamurthy Murugha Sharana.
It has been more than a month since the seer was arrested on September 1, on the charges of sexual assault on two minor girls at the Mutt belonging to Veerashaiva-lingayat sect, booked under POCSO Act, the question remains still over whether the seer will abdicate the revered Peetha (post) or not?
It assumes significance as the seer continues to languish behind the bars in the Chitradurga Central Prisons, and the cases are tumbling out from his ‘personal chamber’.
Amid this, the seer has moved Karnataka High Court for bail as the lower court has turned down the repeated bail applications.
In a latest FIR filed at Nazarbad police station in Mysuru on October 13, the seer is charged under POCSO Act 2012 for sexually assaulting four more minor girls. There are many more victims, whose details aren’t known, according to a passing reference made in the complaint copy, suffice to understand the gravity of ‘illegal acts’ committed in the dark.
While the defence remains, with a section of the leaders in favour of the seer calling it as a conspiracy against the religious head, another section of leaders who met recently under the leadership of former Minister H Ekanthaiah demanded that the seer step down as the head of the Mutt on his own and pave way for the new face to take over the reins.
However, barring those who attended the meeting, there is no strong voice within the community that can add force to the demand, given its wide reputation.
Like the saying, there can’t be a smoke without fire, the recent allegations which are similar to earlier FIR filed on August 26 by the same Nazarbad police, lays bare the covert affairs of the Mutt, which are yet to be proven in the court of law.
it is too farcical to wait for the court verdict, to decide on the future of the seer, either to restore the latter as the head of the peeta, which goes without saying (only if the seer emerges clean) or remove, but it will be too late.
Till then, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the more victims muster courage to open up, given the support of Odanadi Seva Samsthe, an NGO led by Stanley and Parashuram at SRS Nagar, Hootagalli in Mysuru, that is known for its daring rescue operations in association with police, busting many rackets and rescuing hundreds of women from immoral trafficking.
Hence, it is pertinent for the Mahasabha led by veteran Congressman and former minister Shamanur Shivashankarappa as its president to take a call at least in the interest of the community, at its forthcoming convention planned in the month of December.
