Nandi at Chamundi Hills comes alive again
1 min readMysuru: Less than a month after the gigantic idol of Nandi came alive at Chamundi Hills, a similar ritual was performed to bring alive the idol yet again on November 17.
Bettada Balaga Charitable Trust had organised the annual mahabhisheka to the idol which is situated in the middle of the hill shrine that is also a prominent religious tourist attraction.
All the natural elements like milk, curd, honey, ghee, dry fruits, vermilion, turmeric, fruit juices were poured over the idol from the top as part of the anointment ceremony.
President of the trust Govind said “It is organised during the kartika month in November every year. The ceremony has completed 14 years”.
According to available records, Doddadevaraja Wadiyar who ruled Mysore in 17th century initiated the sculpting of monolithic idol after reaching 700 steps of the hills. It took 14 years to complete the work from 1659 to 1673.
It is one of its kind in the State as it is 15 foot tall and 24 foot wide.
