3 min read

Mysuru: Narayana Hospital, Mysore, a unit of Narayana Health, is proud to announce the launch of its Kidney Transplantation Service, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing mission to provide comprehensive and advanced medical care.

This addition strengthens Narayana Hospital’s role as a leading healthcare provider in the region, offering a new lease on life to patients in need of kidney transplants.

The launch of the Kidney Transplantation Service follows the successful kidney transplant of a 60-year-old patient Shankrappa (name changed). About a year ago, Shankrappa attended a health camp organised by Narayana Hospital, Mysore, in Nagamangala. During the camp, Dr Srinivas P, Consultant Cardiologist, detected abnormal blood pressure levels during his examination. A subsequent creatinine test revealed elevated levels, leading to a referral to
the hospital’s Nephrology Department.

Under the supervision of Dr Yashavantha Kumar K Y, Consultant Nephrologist,
Shankrappa was diagnosed with kidney failure. Immediate dialysis treatment was initiated.

Seeking a permanent solution, Shankrappa’s family decided to proceed with a kidney
transplant, and his younger brother volunteered as the donor. After all necessary protocols were completed, the transplant surgery was successfully performed on 8
th of July, 2024, by an expert team of kidney transplant doctors, including Dr. Sanjay Rao, Dr Prashanth M Kulkarni, Dr Nagesh S and Dr Nitesh S, well supported by inhouse anaesthesiologists of Narayana
Hospital Mysore.

Dr Vikas Shettar and Dr Yashavantha Kumar K Y, both Consultant Nephrologists, formed an
excellent team to guide Shankrappa through the Kidney Management Program. Their
collaborative approach ensured comprehensive care throughout his treatment.

This successful transplantation not only demonstrated Narayana Hospital’s expertise in kidney care but also highlighted the seamless coordination between its medical departments, ensuring the best possible outcome for the patient.

Addressing the media gathering, Dr Yashavantha Kumar K Y Consultant Nephrologist at Narayana Hospital, Mysore, said, “With the introduction of kidney transplantation services, we are taking another step towards providing complete healthcare solutions. Our goal is to deliver
top-quality care, ensure successful outcomes, and improve the quality of life for our patients.”
