Post transfers, hope the ‘fire’ douses, in the larger interest of administration, people
3 min readMysuru: While the speculations were rife on Saturday that Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri will be transferred in the wake of unsavoury developments that preceded, it came out to be true late in the night.
What came as a surprise was the transfer of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner.
However, those at the top echelons ( chief secretary) may have taken this tough stand at crucial time of pandemic only to stop the tongues wagging with the people from different walks of life especially the intelligentsia and elected representatives (not all) split between the two IAS officers.
A few hours before the transfer orders were issued consisting the names of six IAS officers including the said two, a RTI activist Gangaraju had spoken in detail about land mafia, accusing former minister and MLA Sa Ra Mahesh that had ganged up against the deputy commissioner, especially after she initiated a probe into murky real estate dealings.
Adding credence, for over a month, Sa Ra Mahesh had been calling frequent press meets only to launch scathing attacks either against deputy commissioner or the district administration, alleging inept handling of Covid-19 related works.
At one extent, vexed Mahesh had called DC ‘To be a role model, not model’, that did not go well with a section of the society who had termed it as misogynist.
Later, a former Corporator K V Mallesh raised the issue of swimming pool and indoor gymnasium built at DC’S official residence ignoring the significance of heritage building (RC is probing into it). The frontal attack on DC did not stop there.
Mahesh recently released a list of Covid deaths and disputed the statistics released by the district administration from May 1 to 29.
Prior to it, MLC A H Vishwanath had alleged that “A shot is aimed at DC by keeping a gun on MCC Commissioner’s shoulder.”
A few days before this, there was a tussle between the district administration of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar over the death of 23 Covid patients in 24 hours at District Covid Hospital in Chamarajanagar.
The bone of contention was the response time over the demand for oxygen supplies, the disruption of which proved costly to innocent patients.
Both the deputy commissioners ( DC M R Ravi of Chamarajanagar) came on record, to outdo each other to prove their claims, until the High Court appointed panel found out laxity on the part of Chamarajanagar district administration in the issue.
It came as a shot in the arm for Rohini Sindhuri who had demanded the apology of whoever had made a bid to defame Mysuru.
Whatever the things may be, for the past few months, Rohini Sindhuri and Sa Ra Mahesh hit headlines every other day, that took a turn with MCC Commissioner Shilpa Nag announcing her resignation from civil services on June 3.
Before that, Shilpa Nag had also named DC and reasons behind, as alleged by the former, still remains fresh in the mind of the people.
With both being transferred, hope the spat ends there, at least in the interest of the administration, moreover people.
