Prolific writer and critic G H Naik passes away

Mysuru: Prolific Kannada writer and critic GH Naik (Govindaraya Hammanna Naik) passed here on Friday. He was 88.

Born on September 18, 1935 at Soorve, Ankola in Uttar Kannada district, he joined the University of Mysore as a lecturer and retired as a Professor. He lived in Kuvempunagar, Mysuru.

Some of his noted works include ‘Samakaalina’, ‘Anivarya’, ‘Nirapekshe’, ‘Mathe Mathe Pampa’ and others. He has edited scores of Kannada short stories, ‘Samvedane’ (A book on Gopalakrishna Adiga).

He won Kendra Sahitya Akademi award for his work ‘Uttarardha’ in 2014 and Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Award for his critical work ‘Nirapekshe’. Also, he has been presented with the V M Inamdar Memorial Award for his work ‘Nijadani’.

He leaves behind wife Meera Naik, an activist, daughter Keerthi and a legion of admirers.
