Mysuru: Scion of erstwhile royal family of Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar who has extended his support to save heritage structures in the city said “If conservation measures are taken, Devaraja Market will remain strong for 100 more years”.
Yaduveer flagged off the protest rally of traders to save Devaraja Market and Lansdowne Bazaar buildings in front of the market. The rally will culminate at Deputy Commissioner’s office.
“It has been three years since we have kept alive Save Heritage Buildings movement. The heritage buildings can be restored with proper conservation engineering measures. The resolution to raze and rebuild the said structures was passed in the absence of Heritage Experts Committee members. It is unfair and the heritage experts have strongly raised the objections. It is very much essential to reconstitute the Heritage Experts Committee”, demanded Yaduveer.
Yaduveer also said “Devaraja market is the symbol of intricate Mysuru culture and art, as it has endeared itself with people of Mysuru. It is a proud moment to visit the market everyday. Hence it should be restored for posterity. Like how we enjoyed the glory of heritage, our next generation also must enjoy”, felt Yaduveer.
There are several experts who can help government to save heritage pride in Mysuru.
Devaraja Market Tenants Association President S Mahadev, newly elected Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry President K B Lingaraju, Secretary Shivaji Rao participated in the protest rally along with hundreds of vendors of Devaraja Market and Lansdowne Bazaar.
