Puneeth Rajkumar laid to rest! CM Basavaraj Bommai turns emotional

Bengaluru: Sandalwood Superstar Puneeth Rajkumar was laid to rest, amid the chantings of “Govinda, Govinda” and cries of lakhs of inconsolable fans, at Dr Rajkumar memorial in Kanteerava Studio premises on Sunday.
Vinay Rajkumar the nephew of Puneeth performed the rituals related to last rites according to Ediga tradition.
He was joined by family members- father Raghavendra Rajkumar, mother Mangala, uncle Shivarajkumar and aunt Geeta, cousins Sri Murli, Vijay Raghavendra among several others.
The flower bedecked pyre was carried around the burial pit before lowering the mortal remains.
Earlier Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai handed over the tri-colour adorning the mortal remains of Puneeth to the latter’s wife Ashwini, daughters Dhruti and Vandita.
Before that the police band played national anthem and three minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
It was preceded by the wreath laying ceremony with dignitaries paying their last respects.
Earlier, the mortal remains was brought in a procession from Kanteerava Stadium to studio, from 4.45 am to 5.50 am.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai who became emotional while lifting the mortal remains to the hearse at the stadium, kissed on the forehead of Puneeth.
Apart from Bommai, former chief minister B S Yediyurappa, Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, KPCC president D K Shivakumar, Home Minister Araga Jnanendra, Revenue Minister R Ashok, Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwatha Narayan and several others attended the funeral.
