Punjab: Two Congress heavyweights sitting Chief Minister Charanjith Singh Channi and Punjab Congress Committee President Navjot Singh Sidhu lost the Assembly elections the results of which were announced on Thursday.
Channi contested from two seats- Chamkaur Sahib in Rupnagar district and Bhadaur constituencies in Barnala.
He lost in Bhadaur to AAP’s first time contestant Labh Singh Ugoke by a whopping margin of nearly 40,000 votes and at Sahib by nearly 10,000 votes margin against his namesake Charanjit Singh of AAP again.
Channi was the sitting MLA from Chamkaur Sahib.
Meanwhile, Punjab Congress President Sidhu lost Amrithsar East constituency by over 6,000 votes.
The netizens took to social media to make a mockery of Sidhu chiding- Completed secret Mission to dismantle Congress in Punjab.
In the run up to the elections, Rahul Gandhi announced Charanjith Singh Channi a Dalit as CM candidate and went on to claim that “We are promoting Dalit CM in Punjab”.
But the 2022 Assembly polls results proved it otherwise.
