Puttaswamy green crusader of NIE- CREST no more
2 min readMysuru: Puttaswamy one of the green crusaders associated with NIE- Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies (CREST) in the city, passed away on Friday. He was 62.
A native of Bherya in K R Nagar taluk in the district, Puttaswamy who shifted to Mysuru 20 years ago, worked at NIE- CREST as project assistant to promote green technologies like- biofuel, stoves and waste compost plants at various localities.
Puttaswamy went to Mantralaya, Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hill and also to Mizoram to build biogas plants and chullas – energy efficient stoves in rural areas. He conducted not less than 200 awareness programmes on biofuel and biogas. While his project on edible oil and bio diesel were popular.
He visited hundreds of villages and trained the interested lot, reaching more in the rural parts of the state.
In the fag end of 2019, Puttaswamy retired from NIE. Before that, he worked as a project Incharge for Bosh under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project to build biogas plants in the villages of Bidadi.
NIE- CREST head S Shyamsundar told Mysoorunews.com “Puttaswamy was like my right hand. He coordinated a plenty of programs to reach green technology to our villages. He came from a low income background and did wonderful things. He along with NIE youngsters team visited 20 schools in H D Kote and built biofuel and biogas plants.”
Even after retirement, he continued to work on green friendly projects, mainly in WASH projects, recalled Shyamsundar.
