2 min readMysuru: When Dasara mood is fast setting in, Sanghini the horse that led 13 Dasara parades, has passed away at the age of 19.
Dasara is celebrated from October 15 to 24 in the city, and hectic preparations are on. Amid this, the news of Sanghini’s death moves the animal lovers, who had watched his majestic performance.
Sanghini, the prestigious horse of Karnataka’s Mounted Police Company, had the honour of carrying Mounted Police Commandant, the Commander Mysuru Dasara Parade for an impressive 13 consecutive years.
In the grand Vijayadashami procession aka Jamboo Savari, where the howdah elephant takes the lead among the elephants, Sanghini was the esteemed leader of the horse contingent.
Born on January 31, 2004, Sanghini was a male Indian thoroughbred horse and was officially inducted into the Mounted Police Company on September 1, 2009.
He served faithfully with the Karnataka Mounted Police Company for an impressive 14 years, one month and four days.
Sanghini was an unsung hero of Mounted Police Company and his absence will be deeply felt as he was an integral part of Dasara.
Not only was Sanghini a dedicated police horse, but he also excelled in equestrian sports, earning two silver medals and one bronze medal for Mounted Police.
Sanghini was also a part of Independence Day and Republic Day parades in the city.
Mounted Police paid last respects with state honours to Sangini that held high the pride of Police astride horses, that still reminds of princely rule that ceases to exist.
We miss you Sanghini.
