Sexual harassment! Absconding cop arrested, remanded to judicial custody

Mysuru: A police head constable is arrested on the charges of sexually harassing a 26-year-old woman.
Mehboob of Metagalli police station was allegedly absconding, after a woman of Raghavendra Nagar lodged a complaint recently at Nazarbad police station.
The police arrested Mehboob on Saturday and is remanded to judicial custody.
Following the complaint on July 15, police had registered a FIR and charges were framed under IPC sections 354 (assaults or uses criminal force against any woman), 354A (physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures) and 447 (criminal trespass).
According to the complainant, Mehboob is her neighbour. While her husband who works in a private factory had gone for night shift on July 12 at around 9 pm. He had sneaked her to house on the wee hours of July 13.
It was around 1 AM that the victim had gone to the toilet in the backyard of the house, within the compound.
After returning from the toilet, she was locking door from inside, when Mehboob allegedly pulled her hand from behind. When she questioned him for turning up at that time, he allegedly tried to hug her.
The victim caught hold of a knife, but he held both her hands and threw away the knife and made a vain bid to hug her again. She ran out of the house and raised an alarm.
As the neighbours came out in response, Mehboob made good his escape by jumping across the six feet tall compound wall in the backyard. When searched, he was also not found at his house.
Later, 112 emergency response support system vehicle of police rushed to the spot. They also inspected Mehboob’s house and directed to lodge a police complaint.
After discussing with her husband, the victim finally lodged a complaint after two days on July 15.
